Last week Sara, Kaylan, Meghan and I went down to Williston, SC to help Harry Chrissy out with survey work. As it may be clear by now, I am not that familiar with different towns in South Carolina, whenever I go anywhere around here, it's a new experience. Williston appears to be on the way to Aiken. It's a rural community with quite a bit of charm. An old railroad bed appears to run through the center of mainstreet. Historical homes and buildings dot mainstreet and can be seen throughout the town.
There is not much in Williston. Even people that live there somewhat lovingly accept that fact. School kids in Williston discuss that they are tired of eating the same old food at the town Hardees restaraunt. They complain that they want more variety, like a Burger King or a McDonalds, Harry shared:) Nevertheless, Williston retains a good bit of diversity and out of towners. While surveying, I met a woman who moved there from Colorado; she was wearing a Georgetown t-shirt. I never got the whole story on that, but I look forward to learning more about the town and its residents this upcoming Saturday at the town's design workshop.
